January 28 -- February 3, 2018
St. Michael School will celebrate Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 28 through Feb. 3, with a number of community-welcoming events.
Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of Catholic education sponsored by the National Catholic Education Assoc. The year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” This theme fits well with the school’s recent curriculum enhancement and adoption of a Catholic Classical Curriculum.
The classical model of education was the model of Catholic education until the first half of the twentieth century. It is proven to produce some of the highest SAT scores of any curriculum. It prepares students not just for high school, college or a career, but to become lifelong learners who are informed, engaged and faith-filled members of society. St. Michael School is the first school in the Diocese of Norwich and in this vicinity to become a Catholic Classical School.
Interested students and their families are invited to several Open Houses throughout the week to learn about the school’s academic programs and extracurricular activities. Wednesday, Jan. 31, features a school day “Drop By and See Us” In-session Open House from 9—11 am. Interested families are invited to stop by the school to participate in the classroom experience at St. Michael School. This Open House is open to new families and to all of our current school families as well.
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Visit Day gives new students the opportunity to visit the school, meet the teachers, and get a sneak peek into a day of St. Michael pre-k and kindergarten students. Three and four year olds are invited to visit at 10:15 am on Thursday, Feb. 1. There will also be an Evening Open House on Feb. 1 from 5 pm to 7 pm for families interested in the school.
Kicking off the week is a Pasta Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm in the St. Mary Church Hall in the Stonington Borough. Adult portions will be $10, child portions will be $7.00.
